1972 Laverda 750 SF1 (D-175)

A true classic with historic significance restored to better than new condition in all regards by a true Laverda expert.

The Laverda 750 GT Series 1 was the first production model of the 750 twin going into production in late 1968. The evolution of the 750 model would be the defining series of Laverda’s hayday. This remarkable example is a 1971 model recently restored to a Concours standard by noted Laverda restorer Venanzio Rossetti in Italy. The bike has been entirely gone thru and is in dazzling overall condition. All mechanical items have been refreshed and the paint, finishes and chrome are truly museum quality. The fuel tank’s flawless finish is executed in a most handsome classic black with white pinstripes and rubber knee pads. Series 1 machines feature the vintage style Smiths instruments and Bosch headlamp with the unique rod toggle key.

This GT also features chrome engine bars, gas tank grid and folding rear luggage rack.

A lockable gas cap is fitted along with a braced touring handlebar with an adjustable steering damper. A comfortable touring seat provides plenty of room for a pillion passenger. All wiring and cables have been inspected and refreshed. Dual touring mirrors are period correct. Alloy rims have been polished, respoked and balanced and new, period correct tires mounted. A convenient charging socket for the battery has been installed behind the left side panel.

Laverdas emphasized top quality components and were built to last, with the engine and transmission being particularly robust. In GT trim the 744cc motor developed 52 HP and provided contemporary performance with a top speed around 115 MPH. A heavy flywheel and small bore Dell’Orto carbs provide ready starting and smooth idle and cruising character. Dual straight thru exhausts lend an authoritative note to any brisk ride. Ceriani forks are fitted, with twin rear damper units. Oversize drum brakes with twin leading shoes in front are fitted providing reasonable stopping power for the period. Handling is secure and well grounded for touring duty, and the basic setup proved very capable when later models were developed for competition.

The GT 750 was designed as a touring bike with sporting performance and handling, a clear step up in all regards to the popular British twins of the late 1960’s from Triumph and BSA. The Laverda 750 platform was continually developed from the solid initial production featuring oil-tight construction, electric starting, a 5-speed gearbox and reliable electrics. The last of the line was the 1976 SF3 with triple disc brakes, alloy wheels and 75 HP. Overall production totaled over 18,000 750 models, with the SF series being the most popular versions. The Series 1 GT is a rare find in this superb condition and a very collectable bit of Laverda history.
