1971 Fiat 500 (D238)
Located in southern Italy in the province of Cosenza by our Italian team, this Cinquecento was recently treated to a comprehensive restoration by true artisans. Inside and out, as well as all mechanical items have been professionally redone. The original body was well worn and had rust issues that had to be addressed. The bodywork done is a testament to the skill and artistry of the restorers as the car now shows virtually as new. The car was totally disassembled, restored and repainted in a delightful “Arancino” shade. Bright, smooth and lustrous paintwork now shows beautifully. Chrome bumper and bumper guards in good condition as are all exterior trim pieces. Simple chrome hubcaps set onto silver finished wheels are a tasteful detail. Engine and transmission were gone thru while out of the car and fully reconditioned prior to reinstallation. No detail was let untouched as the car was put back together carefully. Engine compartment shows virtually like new. The interior features black vinyl upholstery in the original pattern in very nice shape. The floor are carpeted and protected by a unique colored floor mat. Door cards and the rest of the interior trim are in excellent shape. Sunroof is in new condition and operates as expected. Trim, chic and cherry in an uncommon bright orange color this Cinquecento is a real eye catcher. Mechanically sound, no issues example that is ready for La Dolce Vita fun.
ABOUT THE FIAT 500L : Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in 1957 and following in the long tradition of mini compact Fiat city cars that began with the Toplino of the late 40’s the Nuova was an instant success. In production thru 1975 there were several detail upgrades and this 1971 500L model incorporates the most significant of those. Chrome bumper guards and additional trim pieces were added to protect and accent the bodywork. The interior featured a vinyl covered dashboard and a trapezoid instrument cluster. The front seat were upgraded and overall interior trim was a step up from the basic 500 models. Considered by many to be the ultimate “City Car”, the Nuova 500 was verypopular all across Europe. None of the subsequent models ever possessed the charm and fun-to-drive feeling of this series. The shapely body sits on a 72.4” wheelbase and is a trim 117” long, ideal for parking in the city. With a svelte curb weight of only 1,200 lbs and powered by a robust twin cylinder engine, performance is lively around town and adequate for country lanes. Fuel economy is outstanding. A 4-speed manual transmission provides a wide range of gearing for climbing steep urban hills to an open road top speed around 60 mph. The ride is notably supple and the handling crisp and accurate. The 500 L is quite simple mechanically and considered to be reliable and durable, and easy to maintain. Parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive.
