1954 Rumi scoiattolo (D225)

RUMI is a legendary Italian company that built motorcycles, scooters and other machines in the city of Bergamo. The production of the motorcycles started in 1951. The “Scoiattolo” (Squirrel) was the first scooter that RUMI developed. The most unique feature was a twin cylinder motor offering more power than competitive single cylinder 125 cc models. The design and engineering were very advanced at the time and Scoiattolos were noted for exceptional performance and secure handling. RUMIs did very well in racing and competition. There were only 2000 of the first series produced from 1951-53 with a 3-speed transmission. The second series made from 1954-56 featured several improvements including a 4-speed transmission and 14” wheels. This 125cc 2nd series RUMI Scoiattolo comes from a private collection in northern Italy. Overall condition is exceptional. Notable design features include leg shields with chrome trim, fully enclosed engine, deeply valanced fenders, wide tires and a comfortable dual saddle in forest green vinyl. Excellent paint in the original color, lustrous chrome including the pert dual mufflers. Polished chrome rims and parcel rack, original Italian Plates and a brass certification badge add interesting details. The vehicle comes with the ASI “Automotoclub Storico Italiano” certificate and original Italian documents and papers. A rare and special model in superb condition that will add a unique element to any serious collection.
