1984 Honda CB1100 F Super Bol D’Or (D273)

A special edition Honda CB1100F with details specific to the European market and “Super Bol D’Or” badges commemorating the factory racing version. This example was obtained from a vintage bike specialist in Verona and is refreshed in all regards, cosmetically and mechanically. Runs very well, showing only 41K kms (26K miles) on the odo, believed to be accurate. Very original, rare and special machine with unique European edition details.

Overall condition is spectacular and exceptionally clean. Looks great with the distinctive red/white/blue paint scheme that is spectacular and the unique gold wheels and mutil-color scheme create an effect that is dramatic and intense. All alloy and chrome in excellent condition, gold anodized wheels show some minor patina. One great looking 1980’s machine.

Comfortable dual saddle in fine shape, All switches, lights and instruments in good working order. Cool aftermarket handgrips with gold accents are a neat detail.

A stunning machine that stands at the pinnacle of Honda’s air-cooled superbike engineering. The engine design incorporates the best advances proven in Honda’s racing program from the 1970’s and early 1980’s. The dual downtube frame is conventional, but quite rigid. The box section swingarm is equally stout. A robsut front fork and needle bearing swing arm pivot provide crisp and precise handlings that belies the hefty weight. Forks feature Honda’s TRAC anti dive system. Comstar wheels allow fitment of tubeless tires ad the triple disc brake setup is both smooth and powerful. State of the art mid-1980’s engineering and truly ageless classic design.

The 1984 CB1100F set a new benchmark for superbike performance when introduced in 1983. An evolution of the CB900 F, the 1100F featured added displacement, hotter cams and internal mods to push output over 100 HP. The European version differs from the US model with a sportier riding position, gold finished Comstar wheels and the lack of the small handlebar fairing. This CB1100F is a fast, steady and flat-out awesome bike to ride.

MODEL HISTORY

Homologated for racing, the potent CB1100R made its debut in 1981 and two-years later, a street version, Honda’s “Super Bol D’Or” which combined features from both the 1100R and 900F was introduced. The 1984 CB1100F featured the inline 4 cylinder, 16 vavle DOHC powerplant that had been refined over many years in Honda’s CB1100R race bikes and was well proven when fitted to the CB1100F.

The CB1100F was available in many different markets, such as USA, Canada, Europe, and Australia from 1982 through 1984. The “Super Bol D’Or edition was not offered in the US. The riding position was more sporty than the US model, with rearset footpegs and controls as well as lower two-piece clip-on handlebars. These race-oriented parts were originally offered through US dealers as a complete sport kit, and now command a price premium in the US for CB1100 F enthusiasts who prefer the looks and feel of the sportier riding position.

In the USA, the CB1100 F was available for only one year fitted with a quarter-fairing for wind deflection and looks, and cast single piece wheels. Other markets featured gold Comstar wheels and various detail differences. Production of the Super Bol D’Or continued into 1984.
