1978 Ape 500 MP 8 ft extended bed (C6)

Solid original example: Restored in Italy, then converted to 8' flat bed at our SF shop

Many customers have expressed an interest in an APE which is able to accommodate a greater variety of rear build-outs. Typically a stock APE has a fairly short bed 58” and the pickup box sides limit configurations.

To address these issue we have customized this APE by extending the frame and fabricating a custom 8’ flat bed. The flat bed is solidly built with a steel channel structure and wood plank decking. An engine access hatch has been incorporated into the deck for ease of maintenance.

Restored in Italy to a high standard, prior to conversion. Clean, very original, late model APE in good overall condition. New paint and upholstery, mechanically inspected and refreshed.

The “500” version refers to the fact that it can carry 500kg of weight in the back (1,100 pounds).

The engine size is 175cc and the gearing makes it seem much larger.

There are 4 speeds forward and reverse.

Street legal, very modest performance is adequate for urban settings or special events, top speed around 35 mph, no problem with loads or hills.

Easy to park.

Electric start.

Chassis shows 88K km / 54,680 miles original mileage.

California Title and Registration .. DMV classified as a motorcycle, so no smog required
