1973 Laverda 1000 3C Copper Metallic (D305)
This incredible example of the early series Laverda 1000 3C comes to us right off the display floor of the Museo Moto Laverda in Breganze Italy. We were able to secure the unit as it rotated out of active display, before it went into storage. In addition to the very rare and spectacular copper metallic paint finish this machine boasts a truly concours level of restoration. In this case performed by a noted collector and Laverda expert in Italy. Every detail and aspect displays a fanatic level of fit and finish. Beyond better than new, this Laverda is literally unreal in its presentation. We have not seen a better example of the 1000 3C in all our research. Unique features and details include the robust twin leading shoe front brake, a superbike style handlebar with a modest rise and straight bend, Comfortable seat with a pronounced upsweep at the rear. A truly special example to add sparkle to any serious collection.
All mechanical systems, engine, transmission, chassis and all electrics have been inspected and renewed, refreshed or rebuilt as required. The renewed speedometer shows just 27K km ( 17,173 miles ) believed to be accurate, and along with the renewed tachometer is a Japanese ND unit. The controls and switches are British units, typical fitment for the period. The 38mm Ceriani fork is fitted with new rubber gaiters and has been fully serviced. Spoked alloy rims have been refurbished and new period correct tires are in place. This bike is direct to us from its restoration in Italy with essentially zero miles on the rebuild. Looks fabulous with fresh professional paint job and a detailed cosmetic restoration. The engine has a 180° crankshaft and electronic ignition.
A stunning showpiece of Italian engineering this is a spectacular example of the original European superbike. Flawless condition, super rare and exciting color, incredible performance and a memorable riding experience.
MODEL HISTORY
The simple and classic styling, lusty power and secure planted handling have made the Laverda 3C very desirable among collectors of Italian sporting machinery. A true premium example in superb condition.
The 1974 Laverda 1000 3C was the end result of a design process begun at Laverda in the late 1960’s by Massimo Laverda and chief designer Lucian Zen to produce a machine competitive with the latest Japanese superbikes. Development over several years refined the design and improved power and reliability. Introduced in 1973 the Laverda 1000 3C was a proven and advanced design. The fundamental features were an inline triple of 981cc sporting dual overhead cams and a 3-into1-into-2 exhaust. Power output was a solid 80 HP managed thru a 5-speed gearbox. Top speed was over 130 mph. The chassis was a robust tubular frame with a conventional fork and twin shock swingarm. The Laverda 3C was truly state of the art for the period and an impressive sport bike. The 3C continued in production thru 1981 with some minor detail upgrades including a rear disc brake. Overall production totaled approximately 2,300 units, with many modified or raced in the day, very few clean and stock examples still exist.
