An original example of a rare classic with limited production, the “750 SFC” is one of the most valuable of the 750 models. This example has been meticulously restored to its original condition by specialist Marnix van der Schalk. It was part of the opening collection on display at the new Museo Moto Laverda in Breganze, Italy July 22, 2022. Restoration included a complete engine rebuild, with less than 1 hours operation since. Shows beautifully with a superb paint job in an authentic factory racing orange (Arancio). Overall condition is immaculate. A remarkable example, a great addition to any serious collection and a real experience to ride.
This bike is from the “8000” “first”batch of production available to the public, characterized by the fiberglass tank and and special exhaust system with long down pipes that run along the side of the machine, ending in straight megaphones. Compression was raised to 9.6:1 and Mondial pistons were fitted to increase power to 70 HP. A close ratio gear box was standard. This machine has the optional Ceriani competition front brake. Matching numbers frame and engine “8282” attest to the originality and provenance. This Laverda SFC is one of only 78 made in the “8,000” batch. In total only 549 SFC models were produced from 1971-1976.
The bodywork - fairing, tank, tail and side panels - is in stunning condition with an excellent paint finish. All chrome, alloy and trim bits restored to better than new condition. Alloy rim wheels and both brakes fully reconditioned. Cockpit displays a single instrument, the tachometer and the clip on controls stand ready for speed. Matching numbers frame and engine “8282” attest to the originality and provenance.
Very likely this machine was campaigned in several endurance races, such as the 24 hours of Liege at the Zolder racetrack in August 1972, by the Belgian ‘Racing Team Ronny’ of Belgian dealer/rider Ronny Renders.
The Laverda SFC has a huge fan base in Italy and Europe due to its long and varied history of racing success. This has created a ready demand for replicas, as originals are very rare. The bike on offer is a genuine original production SFC, restored to immaculate condition by a noted Laverda restorer. Superb in all regards and certainly one of the finest examples extant.

MODEL HISTORY : LAVERDA 750 SFC
First produced in May 1971, the original lot of 23 SFCs were manufactured for use by the factory racing team and had frame numbers in the “5,000” range. The 750 cc engines were modified from the “street” model 750 SF with higher compression, bigger vales and a racing cam. Also fitted were a high output oil pump and improved bearings to improve reliability under endurance racing conditions. Twin 36 mm Amal carburetors were fitted. The chassis was strengthened by using larger diameter tubes and the suspension modified. An aluminum tank was fitted along with a fiberglass fairing and seat tail. The factory 750 SFCs dominated the 1971 endurance racing season, including 6 outright wins.
The first batch of SFC’s available to the public were 78 machines with the “8,000” batch number produced in November of 1971.This is general considered the “first batch” marked by these “8,000” frame numbers. These had a modified swinging arms, longer exhausts with megaphone silencers and a fiberglass tank. Compression ratio was increased to 9.6:1 by using Mondial pistons giving 70 bhp (52 kW) @ 7,300 rpm. A close ratio gearbox was fitted and a Ceriani front brake was available as an option.
Subsequent production was marked by the “second batch” of 58 bikes made in 1972-3. Fitted with magnesium cases and lightweight cranks, these proved less reliable and these components were not used in later versions.
The “third batch” consisted of 222 bikes made in 1974 characterized by many detail changes to running gear and engines. Power was raised to 75 HP and twin Brembo disc brakes were fitted. The production run was split between 122 units destined for European markets and 100 units made to be compatible with the American market where the 750 SFC was sold as a street legal production racer.
Laverda ceased production after the “forth batch” of 168 bikes made from 1975-76. These units had electronic ignition, oil coolers and higher compression. The final 33 bikes also featured cast wheels.
Continual development kept the 750 SFC competitive and particularly successful in endurance racing over the long history of the model.
They were cool and fast bikes that held up well and often found the road to the winner’s circle.
