Fresh from a very imaginative restoration, we sourced this classic from a private collection in Northern Italy. The restoration focused on creating a very special and exciting look that is certainly fashion forward. Paint finish is a stunning and very unique Celeste Aqua. This is a rare Cabrio replica featuring a brand new retractable top that opens up all the way to the rear valance panel. The conversion from a stock 500 to a Cabrio has been professionally done and faithful to the original. The interior is bright and clever with new seat upholstery in Baby Blue with white piping and new door panels in two tone blue and white vinyl. New grey carpeting is protected by cheerful blue floor matting. All fittings, switches and the dash panel are in excellent condition. The simple two spoke steering wheel is finished in white.

The restoration included professional body work and a very fine paint job. The car presents as virtually new and really looks great from any angle. Period correct details include Fiat badging and simple chrome bumpers, all in fine condition. Original steel wheels with classic chrome center caps are a fashionable accent.

The mechanical components were inspected and refreshed during the restoration with new parts as required. The original motor and transmission have been replaced with an upgraded FIAT 126 motor and 4 speed full synchromesh transmission.  Also fitted are a new Abarth muffler and oil sump. The rear motor compartment is very clean and orderly. Engine, clutch and transmission in perfect working order. Chassis, suspension and brakes deliver a confident feeling.

This FIAT 500 CABRIO looks incredible and starts, rides and runs very well. It is a FUN car and delivers an exhilarating driving experience. Superb condition overall, no issues, no rust, no problems.

The car comes with a valid California registration and title. It also retains its original Italian plates and paperwork.

ABOUT THE FIAT 1970 500 CABRIO

The 500 Cabrio model was the top of the line with charm and appeal that overshadowed the standard 500. A true factory custom the 500 Cabrio was premium priced and sold in very limited numbers and is a rare find today. Mechanically the Cabrio was essentially identical to the standard 500 models.

Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in 1957 and following in the long tradition of mini compact Fiat city cars that began with the Toplino of the late 40’s the Nuova was an instant success. In production thru 1975 there were several detail upgrades and this 1971 500L model incorporates the most significant of those. Considered by many to be the ultimate “City Car”, the Nuova 500 was very popular all across Europe. None of the subsequent models ever possessed the charm and fun-to-drive feeling of this series.

The shapely body sits on a 72.4” wheelbase and is a trim 117” long, ideal for parking in the city. With a svelte curb weight of only 1,200 lbs and powered by a robust twin cylinder 500cc engine, performance is lively around town and adequate for country lanes. Fuel economy is outstanding.

A 4-speed manual transmission provides a wide range of gearing for climbing steep urban hills to an open road top speed around 60 mph. The ride is notably supple and the handling crisp and accurate.

The 500 is quite simple mechanically and considered to be reliable and durable, and easy to maintain. Parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive.
