1970 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 (D249 )
Discovered by our team in Naples we have restored this car to a very high standard. A very special and rare GTV 1750 with a very comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration. Features a new professional paint finish in a unique metallic green shade original to the car and a virtually new drivetrain. The body was rust free and straight to begin with and thoroughly prepped and any blemishes corrected before the windows-out respray. All glass, trim, badges etc. in very good condition. A stunning car that holds up to the closest inspection in all regards.
The entire drivetrain has been refreshed including a total rebuild on the engine and transmission. While the engine was out the engine compartment has been resprayed and shows beautifully. The undercarriage was stripped and refinished prior to a complete rehabilitation of the suspension. The chassis and all suspension arms, components and bushings have been refinished and are exceptionally clean. The entire brake system from master cylinder to wheel cylinders has been rebuilt. Mechanically now A1 in all regards, starts, runs, handles and drives like a new car.
The luxurious interior has been fully restored including new seats front and rear covered in black leatherette and a new dash pad. The wood trim on the dash and console is in excellent condition, as is the wood rimmed Alfa Romeo steering wheel. New carpeting has been fitted. All windows feature an attractive green tinting. Overall interior fit and finish is exceptional.
The electrical system and all wiring has been inspected and redone as necessary and all switches, lights, gauges and electrical items function as intended. All interior fittings, handles and window mechanisms in excellent condition. No issues, gremlins or non functioning items.
This car was originally delivered to the Italian market and, as a European model, is fitted with dual Weber carburetors. The 1750 version of Alfas classic DOHC four cylinder has a delightful running character with more power and torque than the 1600 and smoother revving compared to the 2 liter variant. Alfa’s trademark tall shift lever handles the selection chores for the 5-speed gearbox admirably. As a 1970 model it is also exempt from California smog testing.
This unique Alfa Romeo coupe shows beautifully and delivers all of the excitement and nuance for which the 1750 series GTV is noted. The well balanced chassis responds crisply to the accurate steering, the ride is supple and composed, the brakes are smooth and powerful, and the engine sings a pleasant note with each snap of the gearshift.
