1966 Sears Blue Badge 150 (BM394)

A local find, this 1966 SEARS Blue Badge is in great shape and very nice mechanical condition. This is a SEARS branded version of the Vespa Sprit 150 VLB1T. Bodywork and dazzling red paint shows very well, with only a few minor scuffs and scratches. Comfortable dual seat and handy cowl glovebox are fitted. The Odometer shows only 493Km, but total mileage is unknown. This is a 4-speed manual model and fitted with one of the most reliable 150 cc Vespa motors. Overall very original in all regards. Runs great, handles fine and looks pretty sharp.
The Vespa Sprint was successor to the Vespa GL. It had a similar layout and design, but had updated styling that matched the other contemporaneous large frame Vespas. The motor was based upon the 150cc two port powerplant on the GL. Some internal modifications were made to increase the performance. The compression was increased slightly, and a new better flowing exhaust pipe was fitted. The gearing was changed to accommodate the slightly increased power, as were the flywheel and clutch.
The 1996 SEARS Blue Badge 150 is a US market version of the Vespa 150 Sprint model that Piaggio produced and Sears marketed in the USA. This was the last model in the Piaggio/Sears collaboration. Earlier models were badged “Allstate” and differed in many details from the Italian units on which they were based. The 1966 SEARS is mechanically identical to a 150 Vespa Sprint with a sealed beam headlamp and unique”Mickey Mouse” tail light. The Vespa Sprint model on which this bike is based is a fine scooter. The SEARS 150 makes a good daily rider and while not particularly fast, are peppy enough around town and are fine for cruising.
A very original California scoot in very nice condition that we acquired from a Bay area enthusiast.
