1960 MV Augusta Centomila 125 (D277)
Exceptional example of a beautiful and functional lightweight motorcycle that proved very successful and was largely responsible for the continuity of MV Augusta. The name “Centomila” commemorates the sale of over 100,000 units. A true classic design with lively performance, good handling and reliable operation. We purchased this restored example from a noted collector in the Venice area where it had been carefully stored for many years after its restoration. Mechanically fully redone this sporty machine delivers an exciting ride. Very original and complete with dazzling two-tone finish and colorful MV decals, this classic shows very well indeed.
A popular favorite, the Centomila was a racy and sleek Italian design that delivered a great experience. Engineering is spot on in all regards with a simple and stout frame, good suspension and an elegant 4-stroke single spinning up 7.5 HP. The flat bars and semi rear set footpegs provide a very racy seating posture and the clean design and stylish paintwork provides a truly classic vintage Italian look. This is one fun bike that will add color and panache to your collection. As fresh as the day it rolled out of the MV Augusta factory and into the hearts of over 100,000 enthusiasts. A great find!
MODEL HISTORY
Looking to increase sales with a redesigned product line MV Augusta launched the all-new Centomila in 125 and 150cc variants in late 1960. A fresh design featured a durable overhead-valve four-stroke single built in unit with a four-speed gearbox and MV’s classic detail attention. The new MV Centomilas would prove to be an impressive commercial success for the Italian firm, effectively keeping it afloat in a rough economy. Typical of the brand, these small MVs were very expensive, but so appealing that sales rolled in.
The Centomila 125 cc was very popular among stylish riders looking for a reliable and efficient motorcycle for daily commuting. It offered a good balance of attention getting looks, lively performance, sporty handling, and fuel economy, making it a perfect choice for savvy urban enthusiasts.
